Heather Moore Bernard Scholarship

Heather Moore Bernard

unexpectedly passed away on November 17, 2011.

The Pedorthic Foundation is honored to celebrate her life as a prominent partner in the family’s pedorthic business and a lifelong friend of the profession.

Heather was a longtime partner in the family’s pedorthic shoe business: The PSNE Group. The business originally opened in 1974 to provide services to those individuals who had special footwear needs. Heather spent many hours in the store growing up, helping wherever she was needed. In recent years, she was in the process of taking over the day-to-day and buying operations. Heather had a passion for her dogs, friends and family. She was also an accomplished cross-stitch-er and would spend hours making gifts for family and friends. Above all, she loved people, had a kind heart and always put the feelings and needs of others before her own. Many of you will remember her beautiful smile that she always wore.

Heather died peacefully in her sleep while recovering from ankle surgery. She was only 30 years old. It made sense to the family to ask the Pedorthic Foundation to create a scholarship fund because education meant so much to Heather, Aaron and the rest of her extended family.

It is in dedication to Heather’s advocacy for pedorthics and education that the Pedorthic Foundation is honored to establish the Heather Moore Bernard scholarship fund in her memory.

The Pedorthic Foundation administers separate scholarship funds established by individuals, families, corporations and organizations to assist pedorthic students and professionals in the pursuit of advanced education or credential requirements. If you know of an individual who may qualify for a scholarship award, you may download an application here.

Many of you associated with the pedorthic profession may not recognize Heather’s name, but her father’s name, James (Jim) Moore, is prominent throughout the pedorthic family. In fact, just a few days before Heather’s passing, Jim attended and made special presentations at the Pedorthic Footcare Association convention in Albuquerque, NM.

As President of the Pedorthic Foundation, Jim Moore knows the benefits of creating a scholarship fund with the Foundation. When he, his wife, Gail, and Heather’s husband, Aaron, wanted to memorialize Heather, they decided to establish a scholarship fund through the Pedorthic Foundation.

It is in dedication to Heather’s advocacy for pedorthics and education that the Pedorthic Foundation is honored to establish the Heather Moore Bernard Scholarship fund in Heather’s memory. The scholarship fund will be used to support students who are participating in footwear-related academic classes and/or completing pedorthic continuing education requirements. About The Pedorthic Foundation

The field of pedorthics (peh-DOR-thiks) began to emerge during the 1950s, as doctors and researchers sought ways to help military veterans and polio patients regain as much mobility as possible.
